The network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (NMDHR) herein referred to as Non-Governmental Human Rights Organization is appalled with high levels of violence, intimidation and verbal attack by unknown citizens/gangs on the mayor. As a human rights institution, we perceived this action by some unscrupulous individuals as worrisome, undermining, and daunting for the peace, safety, and security or our country.
Therefore, NMDHR strongly condemns the attack and calls on the president; H.E Rd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio to mount swift investigations into the said incident and let the law takes it full course in bringing culprits to book.
Sierra Leoneans will recall that during the state opening of parliament, the president of Sierra Leone promised to wage peaceful war on indiscipline. Therefore, we are calling on the central government to take ultimate steps in bringing the culprits to book
While we remind government to take immediate actions, we are calling on every citizen within the municipality o Freetown to respect the rule of law and value the constitution that gives the Mayor, her worship; Aki Yvonne Sawyer the responsibility to serve the municipality.
We call on all citizens to be law abiding and to support the police in their investigation process.
NMDHR will continue to protect the rights and dignity of every Sierra Leonean, reports and take action against human right abusers within the ambit of the law.
